Tips and Advice
Dimmers Pay for Themselves
Dimming a conventional incandescent lamp 25% will extend its lamp life 4 times longer and save you 20% in electricity.

Ceiling Fans for every season
It is estimated that you can save as much as 30-40% of your combined cooling and heating bills running your ceiling fan all year.  For summer cooling, rotate your fan counter-clockwise.  For winter warmth, rotate your fan clockwise.

Dining Chandelier: Too big or Too small?
Determine the width & length of your dining room and add them together to get the approximate diameter in inches, for your dining chandelier.
For example: If your room is 10ft x 13ft, the width of your chandelier should be around 23 inches wide.  This a great way to achieve a starting point.  Some dining room tables are rectangle in shape and require a more linear chandelier; however you always want your table to be at least 12” wider than the chandelier.

Reading Without glare
Diffused light from the side or over your shoulder provides the best light for reading.  You can achieve this by using a floor or table lamp.  The bottom of the shade should be about 38” to 42” from the floor to avoid glare for a seated reader.

Landscape: Less is More Light
Sometimes people make a mistake by over-lighting their landscape.  Effective landscape lighting defines and accents an area and should not be bright and blinding.  Appropriate coverage, angle and glare control make more of a difference.
